Wadworth 6X (4.3% ABV) Wiltshire, UK Here's an interesting beer. Wadworth 6X is still brewed in a facility built in 1885 and the business is still a family concern. History like this comes as no surprise in the UK, but to actually taste something that's been brewed in similar fashion for well over a century can do nobody any harm. So what's 6X actually like? I'd call it a decent session beer. It pours an inviting reddish amber colour, settles down quickly and demands your attention. The smell is not its strongest suit. I find it a bit offputting, but you shouldn't judge a beer by its nose alone. Once you take a swig, you'll enjoy a mildly fizzy, moderate, easy to drink taste that's backed up by a benign, if slightly bitter, lingering finish. What little sweetness there is soon gives way to hops, though you'll end up with a ghost of caramel flavour to remind you to order another pint. 4.3% ABV is not a monster strength, which is why I believe it will be something you could drink all night long. I'd also expect it to pair well with a great single malt, such as Balvennie Doublewood, once your evening is winding down towards the nightcap stage. This Wiltshire beer is well worth checking out.
